Tips for caring for my new Leopard Gecko!!!?

I just bought a baby leopard gecko. We bought a kit that seemed to include everything (lights, humidity spray, den, tank, food and water bowls, thermometer/humidity monitor, environmental mat) and we added sand. I was wondering if anyone who has had these before has any basic care instructions, the people at the pet store didn’t seem to know very much. Example: do we keep the heating lamp on all the time??? (we have a blue night time light and a white daytime lamp)

Any tips would be much appreciated! Thank you!

Congratulations on your new gecko!
Leo’s are really fun pets and are pretty easy to care for.
For at least the first several months you need to keep your baby on paper towels so that it doesn’t get a mouthful of sand while it’s hunting for food.
After it’s fully grown you can make the choice whether to continue with paper towels, use reptile carpet or slate tile. Some people do use sand for gecko’s but if you choose to I would suggest using playsand (available at Home Depot) instead of calci-sand.
Calci sand can easily cause impaction (blockages in the intestine) and might kill your gecko if it eats too much of it.
Keep a water dish with fresh water available at all times and remember to provide a small dish of calcium powder (no D3) in the tank in case they need it.
I keep Mealworms in with my Leo’s calcium powder so that they ingest a little more of it.
Heat lamps can be left on 12 hrs a day and turned off at night.
